Hazardous Waste

At  LSU, the safe and responsible disposal of hazardous waste is a top priority. Chemicals should never be poured down the drain, disposed of in the trash, or evaporated in fume hoods. These practices can create unsafe conditions not only for campus personnel but also for neighboring communities served by Baton Rouge city sewer system.

This section provides essential information about hazardous waste management on campus, including waste determination, disposal guidelines for biological, chemical and universal waste, and procedures for waste pickups. We also offer support for lab moves and clean outs, as well as information on handling high-hazard chemicals. For any questions regarding disposal or waste determination, please contact our office at 225-578-5640.
